February Book Choices

I'm happy because I hit one of my goals for the month: to read at least three books. This month's choices are interesting--ranging from good to worse (seriously!). Still, I wanted to read The Fault in Our Stars, but Met said it's already in the box so there's a small chance that I'll read it in the next two months (we plan to move mid-May).

Here are the books I read for this month:

Ugh. I forgot to take a photo holding the book (I'm hoping that this will be my signature book pose)! Ate borrowed this when she left Manila the first time she was here. She said that he wanted something to read while on the plane.
Anyhow, despite what you said that this is Dan Brown's worst book, I beg to disagree. I think that this is my favorite Dan Brown book simply because I read it word-for-word. Confession time: Brown's previous books didn't really paint a good picture in my mind because I always read them hurriedly. This time however, I promised myself to read it thoroughly and OMG, I felt like I discovered a new world. I think that this rekindled my likeness for Brown.
A few weeks after I read this book, Ate and I watched Kingsman and we realized that both have the same core plot; but I think that if this is made into a movie, it will be as entertaining as the former.

This is my second book of the month: Esperanza Rising by Pam Munoz Ryan. This is a re-read because I  forgot the story. However, I knew that this was a good book because seeing the cover elicited good memories. I wanted to know why I felt good when I read this the first time thus the re-read.
I think G that South American writers are the best! This is a light coming-of-age story of a rich girl who became a worker when the bandidos killed her Dad. Esperanza and her Mum had to move to California from Mexico because they were not safe there anymore. Being an heiress, she didn't know any house chores, but with perseverance, inspiration, and determination, she learned the ways of the world.
This book is awesome! I recommend this (but not to you because I know you don't read this type of book).

For me, this is the second worst book I've read my entire life. First is Salmon Fishing in the Yemen. I had high hopes for this because the synopsis was promising, but man, I recommend this only to people who are good at estimation, directions, and have super duper grand imagination because seriously, Lee Child's is so flat. There are a lot of "huh? what the hell happened to this character?" moments. I think that he doesn't know how to develop characters (except Reacher, I guess, because this his 12th book that features the character?) and he lacks imagination; like there was a lot of driving involved in this book. God damn it!

Over all, I'm not happy with my choices this month. I hope that next month's books will be better and G, I found a book shop in Guadalupe and I'm so excited to look what it has to offer. Next up are my restaurant choices for this month.

  1. I used to blog about the books I read. I think I'll start doing that again. Buti ka pa nakakatatlo sa isang month. Starting January 2015, iisang book pa lang natatapos ko. 😝
